Weddings and Civil Ceremonies at the Guildhall

The Guildhall is an approved premises as a venue for civil marriages under the Marriage Act 1949 and as a venue for civil partnerships under the Civil Partnership Act 2004. In addition to this we can also host civil naming ceremonies, renewal of vows and wedding receptions.

The historic town of Helston was granted its charter in 1201 and hosts a mixture of Georgian and Victorian architecture. Helston is best known as the location of the Furry Dance which takes place on Flora Day (normally 8th May), with the Guildhall used as the starting location for most of the dances.

The Guildhall was constructed of beautiful Granite Ashlar on the site of the old market house in 1839 and has marvellous architectural features which make it the centre piece of the town`s historic buildings. In the past it has been a market house and Magistrates’ Court and is currently the location of the Town Council offices.

We can offer a choice of three rooms which can be styled to suit your specific requirements as follows:

               The Council Chamber

The Council Chamber is a former court room located on the first floor of the Guildhall. It is an atmospheric room with high ceilings and features a significant amount of wooden panelling. It is the largest of the three rooms, licenced to hold 100 guests.

Couple married in the 'Dock' 

              The Mayor's Parlour

Located on the first floor the Mayor’s Parlour is the smallest of our rooms making it ideal for an intimate ceremony with close family and friends. The room contains several period features including a cast iron fire place with a marble surround. This room is licenced to hold up to 10 guests.

                 The Corn Exchange

This is a light and airy room with beautiful wooden flooring located on the ground floor of the Guildhall. The Corn Exchange is the starting venue for the dances on Flora Day and may be of interest if you have a connection with this event. The room is licensed to hold 50 guests.
