Council of the Year 2017
Helston Town Council has achieved runner-up in the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) 2017 Star Awards.
Town Clerk – Chris Dawson was presented with the certificate at an awards dinner held in Milton Keynes earlier this month.
The judging panel said: “Our observations were that Helston was consistently strong across all categories - effective relationships with other parts of the public sector, excellent service delivery, communicating with its community, and training & developing its Member and Officer team.” The panel went on to say: “We liked the dedication they showed in engaging with the community. To have a committee member actually visit each planning site is to be commended. Furthermore, the way that, as a relatively small council, they have taken on the conveniences and play areas from Cornwall Council is quite significant.”
The Mayor – Cllr Gillian Geer congratulated everyone at the November Full Council meeting. Cllr Kenchington added that to be runner-up was an impressive achievement considering there are 9,000 town & parish councils in England.
