Mayor Choosing

 Councillor Mrs Gillian Geer’s term of office as Mayor ended at 12 noon on Tuesday 15th May 2018 and marked the commencement of the Mayor Choosing Ceremony which was held in the Guildhall, Helston. Councillor John Martin, who had served two years as Deputy Mayor, was unanimously elected as Town Mayor for the 2018/19 civic year. Following his declaration acceptance of office, the Mayor (Councillor Martin) paid tribute to Councillor Mrs Geer for her work as Mayor during the previous two years and advised that he was honoured to be appointed as Mayor.  A delegation from the Italian twin town of Sasso Marconi was present during the ceremony and the Mayor welcomed them in Italian during his speech. The Mayor further announced that his charities for the forthcoming year would be The Mustard Seed and Kosel Dementia Trust. During the ceremony Councillor Tim Grattan-Kane was also elected as Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year and advised that he felt privileged to have been selected for the role.
